U.S. Benefits - Work/Life Balance

Work/life balance is a core value of MFS®. We ask employees to give us their best work, to face the challenges, and respond to the demands of working at a fast-paced, global, growing investment manager. In return, our policies and supplemental financial benefits give employees flexibility, help them save money, and offer support when times of stress impact their lives.

Alternate Work Schedules

Employees who have been with MFS three months or more may be eligible to request alternate schedules, such as fixed flextime, a compressed workweek, or telecommuting privileges.

Backup Childcare

Backup child-care is available to employees when primary care arrangements break down. Pre-registration and co-pay required. There are annual limits on usage.

Employee Assistance Program

Employees and family members are allowed up to eight free face-to-face and/or telephone counseling sessions for personal or family issues. This program also offers childcare referrals and resources, eldercare consultation and referral, and legal and financial assistance.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

Employees can set aside pretax money for qualified dependent care expenses (up to $5,000 annually) and/or qualified health care expenses (up to $3,000 annually).

Investment Accounts (NAV accounts)

Employees may purchase shares of MFS funds at net asset value. This means no sales charge is incurred. This benefit is also available to a wide range of employee family members.

Matching Gift Programs

Employee contributions of $25 or more to most 501(c)(3) organizations are matched, usually at 100%, up to an annual maximum of $1000 per employee.

Parking Reimbursement Accounts

Employees may set aside money each month before taxes for qualified parking expenses (i.e. parking in a garage near work, parking at a lot from where you take the train).

Time Off

MFS employees enjoy flexible, generous time off opportunities, including vacation, sick time, holidays, and leaves of absence.

Transit Pass Program

Under the transit pass program, employees elect to deduct money before taxes for qualified transportation expenses (i.e. subway, trains, boat/ferries, vanpools) to reduce the cost of their daily commute. The program is subject to IRS limits.

Tuition Reimbursement

We encourage employees to continue to learn and grow through formal education opportunities. To be eligible for tuition reimbursement, employees must be employed at MFS at least one year. Course cost is reimbursed 100% with a grade of C or better for undergraduate courses per year and a grade of B or better for graduate courses per year. The current annual limit is $3,500 for undergraduate courses and $5,200 for graduate courses or certificate programs taken at local colleges and universities.

Volunteer Days

Regular full-time employees may take up to two work days with pay each calendar year to perform community service with qualified organizations.

Employee benefit plan and programs may be changed at any time without notice. The official plan documents are the only governing authority for administrative and legal purposes. For more information, please contact Human Resources.
